At six years of age, Tony began his driving career at Mooresville Dragway as one of the first kids in the state of North Carolina with a Jr. Dragster. Beginning in 1994, Tony started racing at the Divisional and National levels in the NHRA Jr. Dragster series. In his eight years of eligibility, he racked up two track championships at the famed Bristol Dragway (1999,2000), multiple ET records, and won the NHRA Division 2 title in 1999.
After aging out of the Jr. Dragster ranks, Tony moved into the Top Sportsman class in the IHRA Pro-Am series. After two years of bracket racing in this class, he decided it was time for a “heads-up” class and set out to race in the Pro Street Outlaw arena. The 2007 season will be his third year of competition at this level.
Throughout his years in school, he earned many awards, including back-to-back Outstanding Student of the Year (2004, 2005) for his work in the school’s apprenticeship program.
Since graduating in 2005, Tony has focused his efforts on his goal of drag racing as a career. To better understand the dynamics of race car fabrication and set-up, Tony went to work at Gibbs Racecars, the builder of his own ride.
With hours invested each week in learning more and more about his race engine under the watchful eye of his father, Tony has recently started working with Jeff Prock of Applied Nitrous Technology to gain experience in nitrous set-up for his race car. He is making the journey to the Tennessee-based company on a regular basis to learn the intricacies of adding additional power in a combination that will ensure success on the track.

As part of his quest to broaden and deepen his racing experience, Tony races in the competitive “Big Dog” series at Piedmont Dragway in Raleigh, N.C. featuring Outlaw Pro Street Cars on Thursday nights in front of capacity crowds. This group of racers is well-known for their intensity and passion for winning. It is here that Tony has gained both exposure with the fan base and experience with the ups and downs of fast-paced, heads-up racing. The short time in-between rounds necessitates a level-headed command of any situation, broad-based knowledge of the mechanics of the car, and a handle on the track/weather conditions.
Tony wants a broad-based level of knowledge so that he can offer the most to perspective teams and marketing partners.
